Do you think the world would be a better place without religion?

I have thought about the question of whether god exists for a number of years. Having read a fair amount on it and thought quite deeply about it I have concluded that the only logical defensible position is to be an atheist.

However I wanted to ask whether you think that the world is ready for the absence of god. For those in poverty, I feel that it can provide them with very real comfort...

" While the world WOULD be a better place without magical sky wizards, the problem is that the idiots currently "praying" to a figment of their own imagination would make something else up to "believe" in.
