Taxi drivers want 'up-front' late night fare! Do you support this idea?

TAXI drivers want late-night customers to pay up-front for their rides to prevent runners and freeloaders.

The Taxi Council of WA estimates pre-payments would save the industry about $1 million in unpaid fares and protect drivers from aggressive passengers.

" I used to work with a guy in my younger years who would often spend all his money in Northbridge and get a taxi home to Maddington ensuring he got the taxi driver to drop him off in a culdesac that had a laneway so he could jump out of the taxi for a speedy getaway on foot. People will usually know how much it costs to get home, fixing the fee at the start and paying the driver solves the problem of getting ripped off coz your drunk and saves the driver the aggravation of well people like the guy I used to work with. " I've had to show taxi drivers the folding before they'd give me a lift before, and I don't mind that at all - it's been late at night and I'm just some asshole walking along the road. I'm not entirely sure I'd want to PAY up front, but I certainly don't mind proving that I CAN pay. " on Mon 15 Sep
